Cape Disappointment doesn’t disappoint

Cape Disappointment doesn’t disappoint

Yeah, the heater just turned on. We’re sitting in the Casita at Cape Disappointment, Washington; its cool (in the 40s); Mike are I are negotiating a temperature; Mike is eating all of my popcorn that he said he didn’t want; Iris is desperately trying to stay awake though her eyelids are telling her something else; and its only 6:10 pm. What a day.

Mike suggested we go to the beach this weekend to celebrate Iris’ birthday. We woke in Portland this morning and packed the Casita. We’re staying in a state campground just on the Washington side from Astoria, Oregon, which means we had to drove over the tall, scary bridge. The campground is just fine. When we got here, the tide was up so there wasn’t much of a beach. We had lunch and went for a three mile hike up to a lighthouse and back. It was fun and muddy. Iris loved it, and so did we.

No napping, but it was too early for dinner. The tide was down so we took Iris and the drone out for some fun time on the beach. Whoa, the sand was black and the waves made beautiful colors in it. Mike flew the drone; Iris barked at it when it buzzed me; and Mike and Iris played in the bunches of logs swept up by the tide. Mike was trying to the photograph Iris, and Iris was playing on the logs like a jungle gym. At one point, Mike was sitting on a log and looked at me, when Iris popped onto the same log just behind him. If only I had my camera- it was so cute!

Next was a trip to Fort George Brewery in Astoria for an early dinner. Iris wasn’t thrilled when we returned and reminded us that we were late for her dinner. Back to the Casita. After Iris’ dinner, Mike took her out for more photography on the beach while I tried to warm up in the Casita. We’re now in for the night. Let’s see if we stay awake until 8:00. 🙂
