Cape Disappointment continued
We really enjoyed our first camping weekend of 2016. We knew it was supposed to rain yesterday but we were able to get a morning walk along the beach. Iris loves to crawl around the logs and debris washed up by the ocean. She blends in with the logs and tends to explore a ways off by herself. We solved our concerns by putting her in her pink raincoat-so much easier to see her.
We went to Buoy Brewery in Astoria for lunch. That was really neat. We were welcomed to the brewery by barking seal lions. There is a big sea lion problem in Astoria, and they hang out on the pier by the brewery. There is a section of glass floor in the restaurant so you can see the huge animals below, and the entire ocean-side of the building is windows so you can watch them play. The food was okay and the beer was good.
We visited a couple of stores for birthday celebrations, cake for us and cod skin for Iris, then back to the campground. After a leisurely afternoon, we enjoyed a fairly simple spaghetti dinner and then visited a different part of the beach that we had to hike to. By this time, it was nearing sunset, and we were the only ones on this beach. It was beautiful, and Iris really enjoyed it, though she was pretty tired too.
This morning, Iris and I went for a run along the beach at sunrise. It was beautiful. We saw a bald eagle really close, and it saw us as we ran under its short tree. Mike met us at the far side of the beach, took the dog and flew the drone for a bit while I continued running the loop back to the campsite. As we started to pack up the Casita, the rain returned. It’s a good time to head home.
