Rockin’ Boulder: Owyhee State Park, Oregon
We drove about 7.5 hours today and ended up in a state park campground south of Vale, Oregon. We drove through Burns, Oregon again. We’ve decided it is our least favorite route out of Oregon and perhaps our least favorite road anywhere, except for the bumpy, crappy back-road shortcut we mistakenly took in Alaska that popped a rivet in the Casita. We think Vale is cute though and might be fun to explore.
The state park is cool. It’s down a long, windy road that passes a river(?) where tons of people were fly fishing. The park is on the reservoir itself, which is huge and very popular with motor boats. In fact, there’s really not much else to do here if you don’t have a boat. We don’t see any hiking and the reservoir is probably too big for our kayaks. It is a beautiful location though and very peaceful.
We are both happy to be camping again. It feels great to be in the Casita again. Though, we are a little rusty and there’s some tricks and tips we’ve forgotten until we need them -like bringing a pen to self registration booths. We also think we may have learned a $300 lesson. We think we may have blown our Casita’s battery. After we lived in the Casita in our driveway while getting our hardwood floors done, we were in a hurry when we put it away. Apparently, we didn’t turn off the pump or water heater. Dumb rookie mistake. But now it seems the battery won’t hold a charge. Dang! The good news is that we have 1.5 tanks of propane and can live without the battery, and this campground has electricity. We may have a trip to Camping World in our near future.
