Rockin’ Boulder: Getting Closer
It’s been an adventurous last couple of days. We stopped by a hot springs on the way out of Owyhee. That was fun. We couldn’t get Iris to play much in the cool river water but she liked making us nervous by walking on the rocks that divided the river and the hot springs water, which was too hot for her.
We drove to the Craters of the Moon National Monument in eastern Idaho. It was interesting and a good place to spend the night. We met a very engaging man and his Mexican Labrador. He was a photographer from the Netherlands who is working on a book about the Heart of America, which he says is in South Dakota because that’s the center of the United States if you consider Alaska and Hawaii. He got his dog from a vacant lot when he was in Mexico, after returning from Argentina. He was traveling in a $150K RV shipped over from Europe. It was a short RV but it definitely looked sturdy. It was fun talking with him.
I went for a short run over a trail through the park the next morning, and Mike and Iris picked me at the other end of the trail. The trail was pretty stout and my run turned into a run/hike but it was nice to be alone inside the park in the early morning. I saw no life except for flowers and a few birds.
We had a long driving day. Our trip to Camping World in Shelley, ID to replace the battery was a success and went easier than expected. We ended at a crappy KOA in Rocky Springs, WY. It’s a big mud hole. Then, we went to a crappy brewery where they poured the beer like a soda and the beer was nearly as light and watery as a soda. But, they were the only camping and brewery places around. We ended the evening on a high note with showers for the whole family, which felt wonderful.
