We arrived in Talkeetna yesterday, which was probably the worse weather day so far on our trip. It was really rainy. This morning we woke to beautiful blue skies- the best weather day of our trip. On a walk this morning, Mike looked up and saw Mt. McKinley right in front of us. We had no idea it was there and were excited to finally see it. We later drove to a view point with better views of it and its neighbor mountains. We decided to get closer.
And you can’t get much closer than in an airplane. The K2 Aviation flight sightseeing company is within five minutes walk of our campground. They had room for us for a flight today, and we took it. It was amazing! We rode in an Otter with 8 other people. The weather was gorgeous, though some weather on the north side made it so we couldn’t fly around the mountain. We landed on Ruth Glacier and walked around on the glacier for 20 minutes, with a great view of Mt. McKinley. We both really, really enjoyed it. It was another “best day ever.”
