Yeah, the long running weekend starts tonight. I’m pretty excited! The past couples of days, we’ve felt like we were on hold until after the half-marathon this weekend. We couldn’t really travel too far away from Anchorage. Plus, the weather hasn’t been great; it’s been colder, raining off-and-on and overcast. It’s supposed to improve on Monday, which works out fairly well for us. After this weekend, we plan to go to the Kenai Peninsula, and it’ll be nice to see it in the sun. So, we waited out the weather and the weekend by doing day trips in the area.
We went to Hatcher Pass, which is a really pretty drive. We explored the state park with the closed Independence mine, which was interesting. We then drove up to the Pass and checked out the stunning views. Just below the Pass was Summitt Lake, which we were told is popular on warm days for the people living in Wasilla and Palmer. It wasn’t warm but it looked like people were swimming.
The next day, we went to Kincaid Park in Anchorage. By the time we got to Anchorage, it had mostly stopped raining. We had a really good lunch at a brewery. It was a good day.
Then, yesterday, we were tired of being in the same campground in Palmer, so we drove a couple hours up the Glenn Highway and found another campground. We pretty much spent the day catching up on maintenance and watching Game of Thrones.
We’ll go to Anchorage today because Spirit of the Marathon II is playing at a brew pub/theater this evening as part of the running weekend.
