After spending a couple of days kayaking and hiking at Nancy Lake State Rec. area (a traditional “let’s take the family to the lake this weekend” type of place), we made our way to Palmer, AK. Palmer is a smaller town that doesn’t have the tourism-focused feel. It’s like small town America but surrounded by the most beautiful mountains. We are at a crappy, little RV park with an amazing view.
I was excited to finally catch an open produce stand. I told Mike at the beginning of this trip that I wanted to buy fresh produce from stands on the side of the road. Well, this was a building on the side of the road, but it counts because it was in the middle of nowhere. I bought strawberry jam that won first place at the Alaska State Fair, including red gingham cloth covering the lid. And for my friends who helped me with my CSA box a couple years ago, have you heard of this one? I had to ask how to cook it. I’ll let you know how it tastes.
Note for Future Use: We stayed at the South Rolly Lake Campground in Nancy Lake and not the campground by the road. The South Rolly Lake Campground is far nicer.
