A Rough Trip to Soldotna
We spent the morning at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. The highlights were the young musk oxen and a large brown bear that stood and scratched its back on a tree.
We then spent way too much time trying to find our next campsite. We must have toured 4-5 campgrounds and didn’t love any of them. We decided we were spoiled by all the lovely campgrounds we’ve stayed in and were perhaps too picky. We took an off-the-beaten-path road to check out some campgrounds on a lake. It was the worse 24 miles we’ve driven during the entire trip. The road was gravel and crazy bumpy with craters. It was such a relief to finally reach the highway again. However, being picky paid off because found ourselves at Morgan’s Landing Recreation Area, a beautiful state campground that overlooked the Kenai River. We finished the day with an early dinner at the St. Elias Brewery and Pizzeria in Soldotna.
