Fort Stevens State Park
Fort Stevens is a nice campground, but the mosquitos are out in full force this time of year. We had to jog from the camping area to the beach (about a mile or so) to avoid the mosquito swarms, even after we used spray. Iris loves the beach. She loves to run on it and play with the waves. She was unsure about the pools that surrounded parts of the shipwreck buried in the sand. She wanted to walk towards the wreck but saw the water in the puddles moving and wasn’t sure what was going on. It was really cute.
A ship had grounded ashore in 1900 and is mostly buried now. It is unique and majestic to see parts of a steel ship skeleton reaching out of the sand that was built in the 1800s. It seems odd that history just left the ship on the beach.
We ate lunch at the Rogue Brewery because it had outdoor seating so Iris didn’t have to wait in the truck, which would have been a little too warm for her. Lunch with good. Then, we set up camp. Vicki worked a bit while Mike and Iris went for a walk, found firewood and took a little nap. We made burgers for dinner. Now, we are enjoying a campfire, while Iris sits on Vicki’s lap exhausted. It’s rough to be a dog. We are having fun.
