Cave Lake State Park
We are camped just outside of Ely, NV. The park is an oasis in the desert. There is a lake where people boat, swim, and sail and is surrounded by juniper trees, sage, dirt, and chipmunks. It’s beautiful. I don’t think we would have ever discovered this place if we didn’t need a campsite approximately this far from our last one. Most of the campsites aren’t very secluded but ours has juniper trees between it and its neighbor. We really like it here…or maybe we just really like camping.
This is our first dry camping experience in the Casita. We are using potable water and our gas. Silly me- I tried to microwave popcorn tonight. Guess I’m spoiled already. We also successfully used the leveling blocks. We’re getting the hang of trailer camping.
We went for a walk to the lake and took time watching the ducks, the fish jumping, and a family fishing. We also saw some really great rock, including a large wall with a flat face. Mike wondered if there were routes on it. It was a beautiful and relaxing time.
Critter count: rabbit, deer and chipmunks
The startled adventurers were awoken with the sounds of alarm. The Casita had a little surprise for us last night. We turned on the furnace because it was going to get cold at night. When the temperature dropped so the furnace turned on, an alarm went off. And it was loud! We both immediately assumed it was the gas alarm because we had been warned how sensitive it was. We jumped up, turned on the overhead fan and turned off the furnace. We tried it again, and an hour later the alarm woke us again. We then turned off the furnace, and Mike went to the truck to get the other sleeping bag. It was a chilly night.
This morning, we realized it wasn’t the gas alarm but the smoke alarm that went off. It was a new furnace and the new appliance smell set it off. If we had thought about it last night, we could have simply removed the smoke alarm battery, as we did this morning. The furnace heats up the Casita quickly and I can sit in one of the captain chairs and put my feet right by it. Nice.
