The X3 and Chicago
Oops. Guess we haven’t been so good about keeping the blog current. It’s been a busy three months.
We bought a new car. We traded in the Subaru for a 2004 BMW X3 and we love it! It uses quite a bit more gas than the Subaru (yesterday we paid $50 to fill it – ouch!) but it’s worth it. It is so comfortable and luxurious and drives like a dream. And, like our Subaru, some idiot hit it within the first two weeks. Apparently, someone didn’t turn tight enough while parking beside us at the climbing gym. There was a large dent in the rear passenger’s door. It took two weeks to repair and we were going crazy.
In fact, we had to drive the truck to Bandon, on the southern Oregon coast. Mike was not happy about taking the truck. I think he had bets on when it would break down. But, the truck held true and got us there and back. We spent the weekend in Bandon at a Best Western with an ocean view. We were a little miffed at the Best Western but, overall, it was a great weekend. It actually hailed on us while we walked the beach. That was pretty funny. We learned that we need to plan activities for us when we go away. The weather was rainy and windy, so we were in the hotel room a lot of the time. We both got a little antsy, but it was still fun.
We’re going to Chicago on Tuesday. I have a DRI ERISA conference and Mike is going with me. It should be a lot of fun. Jennifer and Jodie at work gave me some ideas on what to see and where to go. I’m really looking forward to the trip. We’ll return on Saturday.
Both Mike and I have been really busy at work lately – even more so than usual. We’re not complaining. We’re actually both enjoying our work at the moment. Come summertime, I’m sure we’ll want to take some additional time off of work, so the extra hours now will come in handy.
At my office, we have two new lawyers. Jeff Hill joined the firm. Jeff has practiced law for 25 years and will add some experience to our firm. He’s a great guy. I think it was a good idea to bring him to our firm because both Pete and Barry are retiring this year. Jodie Ayura will also be an attorney as of April. Currently, she’s a paralegal but she passed the bar in 2005. She’s a neat lady and I know she’ll be an excellent attorney.
Mike’s business has doubled since last year at this time. He is really enjoying it. If we move next year (which is the plan), Mike hopes to buy a house with a guest house or separate office so he can move his business back home. He has enjoyed having the office space, but it is more economical for the business and us if he leases space from us.
Phew – I think that’s it.
