Welcome Dory
It was not an easy, guilt-free, or quick decision but we decided to add to our family. Dory (then Dora) had been at Street Dog Hero’s for at least a month. We’d seen her photo on the website but it wasn’t a great photo. It took a while for her foster parent to provide more detail. Little did we know that Dory had bounced between foster homes a few times, which is probably why her description on the webpage wasn’t updated very soon. That was lucky for us!
We decided to meet Dory just after Christmas. On the way to her foster home in La Pine, we discussed that the name Dora wasn’t our favorite. It reminded me too much of the Dora the Explorer cartoon. Mike thought the fish in Finding Nemo was named Dora, which is how our dog got her name - Dory.
She was at a nice foster place that had another, older dog. Dory was a little shy but followed the other dog’s lead. After talking to her foster mom, we decided to take Dory home with us. The rest is history.
2.5 Week Update: She’s a little nervous but also starting to trust us. Something happened in her past and she doesn’t like to be captured. She shies away from us sometimes still but is a happy, cheerful dog. We need to work on her recall; we had a couple “oops” moments, but we think Dory wouldn’t go too far because she likes being with us. She also likes to run and show her speed skills. She and Penny hit it off, which makes all of us very happy. She is actually quite chill at home and in the car. She’s getting used to being in the 7th Street parking lot. :) She is super happy in the mornings, eats breakfast and then she takes her morning nap until about 10:30. We don’t think she’s a morning-dog yet. She fits right in and we love her.
