Sabbatical Phase 3: The Recovery Phase
We are just shy of two weeks into Phase 3 of our sabbatical. Phase 3 is the recovery phase, which means I need to treat and resolve my back/sciatica injury. This is not how we wanted to spend our free time but we’re determined to have fun.
Ironically, as we drove the trailer home from Burns, Oregon (note to future self: there is no good restaurant in Burns) we drove through snow. And this week, we had the first real snow of the year in Redmond. There’s two weeks of freezing weather ahead of us, and the mountains look lovely covered in snow. Maybe it’s a good thing we had to cut short our camping trip, so we didn’t get stuck somewhere in the south without a way to bring the trailer home.
Since we’ve been home, we:
Watched a lot of Halloween cake and pumpkin decorating shows,
I had fun making made a Halloween/birthday cake for our neighbor, and then our neighbors invited us and others over for a fun afternoon at their outdoor campfire and to eat the cake,
Went to Beer From The Dead at a local tap house, which had popular beers on tap that had been retired by various breweries in the past; Henry’s Private Reserve was sold in cans - it wasn’t as good as I remembered,
Bought Iris slippers to avoid her sliding on our hardwood floors and think she’s so cute in them,
Visited and shopped Sisters, OR to look at their holiday decorations,
Spent a lovely afternoon in Bend where we visited the new Sunriver Brewing location - it was OK,
Shopped for bikes - we plan to get a pair of gravel bikes to explore central Oregon more and pick up a new activity that we can do together, unfortunately, we have to wait until after my doctor appointment to make sure it’s OK for me to ride,
Watched Oregon Ducks football games, usually starting them at tap houses and finishing the games at home, and
Are still eagerly awaiting news from Tesla that our car is ready.
