COVID-19 Update
We’re still quarantining - starting week 12 tomorrow. Wow, who would have guessed? The good news is that Oregon counties are starting to open, and we finally had a meal at a restaurant last weekend in Redmond (Portland and Beaverton are still closed) - it was awesome. We haven’t really changed much while quarantining at home but there have been some Ups and Downs.
Ups:
Mike, Iris and I still really like each other and have enjoyed the time together, even if we haven’t been able to do much.
Construction was considered an essential service so our contractor, Matt Wittmer, was able to continue working on our house.
We had central Oregon to go to nearly every weekend, which was great to: see the progression on the house, see Mom and Dad, and get out of Portland.
I finally finished a 30-day yoga challenge in 30 days. I actually did a yoga streak of 60 days before breaking it.
It broke our eating-out problem, and we’ve been cooking nearly every meal. That also means I got to enjoy some baking again. I lost track of the number of cookies at 6 batches and 2 cakes.
It taught management in both our jobs that working remotely was possible and productive.
No comuting to work; no traffic; no alarm clock (mostly); no packing lunches.
Watching the birds, opossum, raccoon, and squirrels play in our backyard from my workstation has been fun.
Downs:
Friends are struggling from losing jobs. Luckily, not many of our close friends but we do know people who are struggling.
The Pour House, the gyms, and restaurants are closed.
Going to the grocery store feels like the apocalypse. Mike has been the only one going. He’s so amazing.
Iris is starting to assume the three of us should always be together and has gotten a little attitude about it, but it’s not too bad.
Being in the rental every day kinda sucks.
Wearing a mask sucks.
My hair looks the worse it ever has. Mike cuts his but he’s still unhappy with it. We don’t care too much, but video conferences for work are posing a bit of a challenge to make it look professional.
And it’s our 17th anniversary today. We’ll celebrate more fully later. We’re planning on making a special trip to a Bend brewery for dinner- that will be awesome! To celebrate today, we made a Bill Phillips turkey dinner with my family’s stuffing in addition. It tasted really good. We made “healthy” pumpkin pie too (also from Bill Phillips’ cookbook).
