FDCC Winter Meeting in San Diego

FDCC Winter Meeting in San Diego

I’m glad I joined the FDCC.  It’s a very friendly and fun organization.  Hopefully, it’ll also prove to be profitable.  I’ve been in San Diego since Sunday.  I’m staying at the Hotel Del Coronado, which is a beautiful, historic hotel on Coronado Beach.

On Sunday, I went to the welcome reception and started meeting people.  It’s been non-stop since then.

After conference sessions on Monday, I took a self-defense course.  That was fun and helpful.  I then went for about a seven mile run around the island.  Loved the views.  That evening was the President’s Reception on the outdoor patio.

On Tuesday, I woke up early to squish in some work before the morning sessions.  After the sessions, I had to hustle and change to catch the bus to go to the University of San Diego’s crew boat house.  Members of the university’s women’s crew team, and their coaches, taught us how to row.  The session ended with a rocky trip in an 8-person racing boat.  It was awesome!  I caught a cold the Friday before this adventure started so I’ve been trying to get as much sleep as possible to not let it overwhelm me, so I took a short nap after rowing.  Then, I met up with some lawyers for a dine around, and we ate at a nice Italian restaurant.  The evening ended with the dessert party where a woman well-known to the organization played the piano and people sang around her.  It was like taking a page from a classic story.  People had so much fun singing; it was beautiful and awesome.

Wednesday morning started with a partner meeting, which I attended by phone.  The day then got better when I attended the seminars.  Another quick change after they ended because it was a bus ride to a San Diego marina to ride on the Stars and Stripes 11, a sailboat that raced in the 1992 America’s Cup.  That was an amazing three hours, though a little cooler on the way back.  We got up to 13 knots and saw the Navy ship that dumped Osama bin Laden’s body to the sea.

Now, I’m gearing up for a Speakeasy-themed dinner party this evening.  I’m going to wear Nan’s dress and the feather headband Heather made for me.
