Chicago Marketing, Snow, and Football

Chicago Marketing, Snow, and Football

I flew to Chicaogo today so I could meet with a potential client and go to a conference on Wednesday.  I had a crappy lunch at a gastropub.  Lesson learned: not all gastropubs are created equal.  Then, I bought nylons because I forgot them.  I returned to my hotel, the snazzy Trump International Hotel, and hit the fitness center for about 40 minutes or so.  Quickly showered and suited-up to meet a client at 5:15pm.  She said she had an hour to spend and she spent 1.5 hours.  We had a great conversation.  I really enjoyed talking to her and, hopefully, I’ll get some work out of it.  Walked back to the hotel in a snow storm, after waking 6 blocks the wrong directions.  I had so much fun walking in Chicago at 7:30 pm in the snow.

On my way back, I stopped at a bar called Harry Carey’s because it had decent reviews and was playing the national college football game.  It ended up being a cool place. Carol told me it’s owned by a prior White Sox announcer.  I talked to a guy sitting beside me at the bar from Virginia.  He was also rooting for Clemson.  The gym two seats away was rooting for Alabama, but the guy who sat by me in the other side also rooted for Clemson.  That last guy was from Tennessee who has lived in Chicago and confirmed the bar was a place to see famous sports people.  He was a nice guy, worked for a company that made components for refrigerators, etc.  I had a great nice, kinda classic work travel day – good meeting with client, fun walking in the snow in low heels and no real hat but I used my scarf, sports bar with fun people, and then finishing it watching the second half of the football game in my fancy, swag hotel room.  What would make this perfect is if Mike and Iris were here!
