Vicki is back in Banff
Last week, I was in Indiana at the Notre Dame campus on a great marketing trip with Thor Industries. This week, I’m in Banff at a FDCC conference. The tone is quite different. I arrived at 7:00 pm this evening and the “warm casual” dress code seems to be almost-suit wear. I decided to pretend I wasn’t part of the conference yet and wore my comfy travel clothes to dinner. It had been 6-7 hours since I last ate and the trip was a little wearing, though it was wonderful to see the Canadian Rockies again. I wish Mike were with me! I really miss him, especially here where we visited last year.
Anyway, there was nowhere to sit inside the pub for dinner and the waitresses were ignoring little lone me. I decided to eat outside in the cold and wet, as it had rained earned, because there was a place to sit. The views were beautiful, and there was a couple out there. We started talking and they invited me it eat with them. They were a lovely couple from Michigan. He is an engineer who is presenting tomorrow at my conference. She got me a blanket, so we were all three snuggled in our separate blankets outside. After two beers and a warm dinner, I started feeling better.
The hotel is like a castle. It’s a little incredible and a little intimidating. Tomorrow, I’ll put on my lawyer armor and blend right in. Here’s hoping for a successful conference where I meet potential clients.
