Spending an extra day at the beach
At lunch today (at the same place we ate lunch all weekend because we love it), Mike jokingly suggested we stay another night and leave tomorrow morning. And we did it. We weren’t ready to go home, so we stayed another day and will wake up early tomorrow to drive home and go to work. This is the Year of Carpe Diem and there have been too many weekends where we haven’t lived up to it. However, this has been a great weekend for us, and I’m glad we stayed another night. I did spend about 6 hours today working, but it still feels like being on vacation where, had we gone home, it would not have. We love the forced down-time, but it does take a day or so to get used to, before we stop feeling like we should be doing something productive. Mike and Iris spent some quality time at the beach. Iris loves the beach. She can run around free and smell nasty things, like dead bird heads, but it’s a treasure hunt for her.
We planned this weekend to be practice for our sabbatical. I think that goal was achieved, though we need another practice weekend where we practice eating better and exercising while camping. This weekend, we were on vacation mode, which meant unhealthy eating and no real exercise, except a fair amount of walking. If we can take what we learned this weekend and add a normal lifestyle to it, we’ll be set for Alaska.
