It was a black bear. I stopped running when I saw him and started talking to him as I continued to walk on the trail. I suggested he go his way and I’d go mine. He agreed and hurried off. It was amazing; I was so excited afterwards. It’s too bad Mike and Iris ran the first part of the loop around the campgrounds with me and not the last half, which is where I saw the bear, ran through a herd of elk with young ones, and stared down two deer with horns.
We are in Banff. This place is really wild and the mountains are unbelievable. We’ll stay here until Sunday and then probably work our way north through Jasper. Happy 4th of July!
Note to future self: Tunnel Mt. Trailer Court campgrounds are better than Village II.
