Even more happy!!
I had a deposition of an asbestos plaintiff scheduled for Casa Grande, AZ, which is about one hour south of Phoenix and north of Tucson. Mike and I decided we would visit Arizona together. It’s been…different. Casa Grande is far from a thriving metropolis. In fact, we may have driven though the “other” side of town on our first venture out, which skewed our impression. Other than the franchises, the town is 30-40 years out of date. Even a 4 star Yelp rating is rare. But, we are still happy to be out of Portland and experiencing an adventure.
We were a little concerned when we first drove up to our resort outside of town. I think we were one of two guests in the entire place, which is a little outdated and the elevator creaked. It felt like the beginning of a horror movie.
Last night, we ate in the resort bar, having had a failed meal at a sports bar in town. We rate the town’s food as a whole a 1.5. It’s just not good, and the beer selection is sad. Even the sports bar failed to carry an Arizona local beer. Really? Though, it had an impressive amount of TVs, which we conveniently visited on Monday so we could watch football.
The patio of our hotel room overlooks the golf course and the balconies of other rooms. Since there is no one else in the resort (OK maybe there are 5 people here now), we have some privacy on the deck. The weather is hot; it broke 100 degrees earlier; and we love it. We spend time on the patio, drinking Coors Light, watching the sunsets and sunrises, and listening to the amazing amount of doves that sounded like they were straight from a jungle. At home, we speculated where birds go when they are old to die, now we know. There are a ton of birds here. There seems to be two very popular times of day-about 6:00am and 6:00pm, the birds go nuts. The volume of bird noises then is very cool.
Mike has been spending his days working in the hotel and hanging out with the birds. I have been spending my days at a plaintiff’s house. Luckily, the plaintiff has a nice house. We’ve been here about three days and will head home tomorrow morning, bright and early.
My pumpkin shake, made with their seasonal beer, came. So delicious!
We love Tempe
Bought a hippie bag and a hippie wallet. Now we are at the World of Beer. Having fun on Mill Ave.
We decided to stay one more night in Arizona but in Tempe. We checked out Mike’s old apartment and where his climbing gym used to be. We got a cheap room at Beat Western. And now we are at Four Peaks Brewing Co, where there is real beer and real food! If there’s a good brewery, we’ll find it-and don’t it we did. Yum!
