Recovery Thursday

This morning, we took a nice walk to town before the shops opened. We looked at shop windows and visited the market. There, I completed my quest to find a fresh mango. Guess what we’re having for breakfast tomorrow morning. We also found a really cute piece of pottery in the shape of the Big Island that was painted bronze. We earlier learned that the traditional gift for an 8th anniversary was pottery or bronze, so this piece fits perfectly. The husband of the lady who sold it to us made it by hand on the island. I also bought a running piece that was made on a strip of bark by a local man. The piece is cool and I’ll get it framed and hung in my office. We bought a couple additional items at the market that were locally made. One item was made from local clay and the black lava sand. The guy who sold us that piece had clearly spent a lot of time in the sun and had completely adopted the Hawaiian relaxed attitude. He looked like a guy who had been a surfer for over 30 years.

A couple days ago, we went into a jewelry shop. The guy there clearly owned the shop. He told us about the fuzzy seeds on the necklace I bought and how he travels to the green sand beach to get the green stones. The man was great and I love how the necklace was locally made on the island.

We had breakfast and a couple mimosas at a restaurant overlooking the bay and then walked back to the condo. It was a 4-mile hot walk and we wanted to cool off. We weren’t in the mood to travel to a beach so we stayed at the condo and went swimming in the salt water pool. Then, it was mellow time again. We just got back from a nice late lunch/early dinner. We are not sure what the rest of the night holds for us.
