Rally Race
What a weekend. Mike and I didn’t do much Friday night. It had been a long week, so we went to bed early. Unfortunately, we went to bed a little too early. Mike was going to Seattle with Kris and Connie the next day and we misunderstood the plan. Kris and Connie intended to stay with us Friday night and they rang the doorbell quite a bit, knocked and called us on the phone. We slept through the whole thing. Oops.
Kris and Connie forgave us and picked up Mike to go to a Subaru rally race in Seattle the next day. I went to work because I was going to trial on Tuesday. The Subifest was fun. There were two race courses. A driver got into a serious accident on the time-attack course and Subifest closed the course. Luckily, they got to watch the rally races. First were the amateur drivers, then the professionals drove the course. Mike took some good photos of the vehicles.
On the way back, Kris planned to buy some fireworks, illegally, from a guy on the Indian reservation. They were meeting a guy in a dark corner, off the main road. As they drove to the meeting place, a police officer flashed his lights at Kris, because Kris had his bright fog lights on. After the police officer drove by, Kris pulled into the meeting area and turned off the lights. The three just sat in the car and waited. Apparently, it looked suspicious, because the police officer drove past the area, then turned around and drove along side the car. Mike was nervous and asked what their “story” would be. Kris jumped out of the car and told the officer they “were waiting for a friend.” The officer didn’t appear to believe Kris. Meanwhile, Connie was nervous in the car and when she gets nervous, she gets a little gassy. Mike couldn’t leave the car because he was concerned the police officer would get uncomfortable. Suddenly the “friend” pulled up. The officer knew the “friend”, relaxed and left. With the purchase made, they left about 20-30 minutes later. Down the road, the officer started following them again. Thinking the officer and the “friend” were in cahoots, they got nervous. The officer eventually turned off the road and the rest of the trip was uneventful.
Sunday was also an exciting day for Mike, but not in a good way. I went for my last 20 mile training run (I actually ran 22 miles). I took Mike’s phone because we were expecting a call from Marlo and Ryan on my phone and someone needed to answer it. Of course, that would be the day that Mike received an important call. ADT called because Mike’s motion detector in his office went off. Luckily, I am the back-up number and ADT got a hold of Mike. Half-dressed, Mike raced out the door and roared away in the truck. When he got to the office, a police officer was pulling up behind him. Mike saw his shades move in his office and he was ready to kick the burglar’s butt, especially since the officer was right behind him. Adrenaline pumping, he opened the door and found standing water instead of a burglar. The roof had leaked and some insulation had just fallen to the floor. Mike was pissed! The business park manager was very helpful and immediately contacted a service to fix the problem. The repair contractor arrived within 10 minutes.
That night, we helped Marlo and Ryan move from their apartment into their new home. Afterwards, we went to Old Chicago, where we all entered the 110 beer club. 107 beers to go.
